Banning of religious symbols
This lesson is designed to enable students to explore some of the arguments surrounding countries banning religious symbols. Originally it was delivered as a part of a tutorial but will also be applicable to a range of lessons e.g. PSHE, critical thinking and religious studies.
The slides are not extensive and the idea behind this lesson was to encourage discussion and students using the internet to explore activities in more detail in order to nurture independent learning.
Brazil, Comprehension, Online Research Hunt-Lets Visit Brazil
This lesson is based upon Brazil and has been written in a style which allows the students to explore the country.
They will be using their reading, research and ICT skills by finding out facts on the internet and recording them.
They will be asked questions which use their literacy/English skills, as well as comparing Brazil to their own Country- building up their awareness of diversity. Students will be looking at the symmetry of the Brazilian flag to enhance their mathematics/numeracy skills.
You may wish to use the accompanying handout for lower ability learners, but higher ability learners could be asked to record the information in a format of their own choice, in greater detail.
The lesson also covers locating Brazil on a map.
Health Promotion
This is about 4 hours worth of teacher-led tutorial and student activities on health promotion.
Students will cover the following:
Healthy/unhealthy/risk taking behaviours
Why health promotion is used
Organisations on a local and national level which seek to promote health
Health Targets
Models of Behaviour Change
Health Promotion Activities and Techniques
Students will build on their research and evaluation skills.
Healthy Relationships Tutorial
In light of Valentines day, this is the ideal tutorial designed to get students to think for themselves about what is a healthy and an unhealthy relationship. Students will also discuss abuse and why abusive relationships can be difficult to break away from.
Students will partake in discussions and light activities which can be further examined with older or more mature student groups.
Advice provided to students on where they can go for support should they need it.

A PowerPoint and Poster Activity Handout which features a quiz, a poster activity on healthy eating and a celebrity client advice plenary.

This was originally created for a LA Year 9 group but can be adjusted to suit other abilities and delivered over an hour.
You will need poster materials e.g. pens/paper and internet access to deliver this lesson.
Alternative Health Care
A teacher-led presentation on Alternative Health and Complementary Lesson which could be delivered prior to students embarking on independent activities (these would have to be created).
Originally aimed at Access to HE but could be tailored to suit a range of courses.
Students should be able to describe and evaluate various aspects of Alternative Health Care by the end of the session.
New Class Bingo
Bingo game to encourage students to communicate and get to know each other. Basic template with statements which can be adjusted to fit the group.
Students could write some sentences about the students they met as a follow up activity.
Bullying
Colourful PowerPoint with discussion prompts, video clips to enable students to learn what bullying is and what to do in the event of bullying.
What is Diversity?
A whole lesson, including interactive activities designed with Autonomous learning and British Values in mind.
Activities and content of slides have been written to evoke interesting discussion in terms of what makes us so diverse and why we should be respectful of this.
Employability Skills Taster
This lesson was delivered as part of a 1 hour tutorial designed to provide students with a taster of what employability skills, what are employers looking for and to encourage them to start considering what skills they already have. Features teacher prompts and student centred activities.
You will need a classroom with computers and internet access for this lesson.
Might work well at the start of the year for a taster of what skills students should expect to develop on whatever courses they are studying. Can be made subject specific.
Conflict Management
An array of handouts and activities designed to make adult learners consider conflict management with an employability focus.
Learners will work with the Four-Step Process of Conflict Management.
Could be adapted for staff training.
Anti-Discriminatory Practice
Research activities and case study to prepare students for assignment on Anti-Discriminatory Practice.

There are activities incorporated into these worksheets designed to get students to consider their skills and attributes, supporting them in producing unique employment letters to impress prospective organisations.
